My 13 year old son and I left SW Washington state on the 27th of June and picked up my good friend and his son is southern Oregon the next day. We had planned to camp in the Sacramento Delta but when we got there late Saturday the winds were blowing 50MPH so we drove all night and launched in Marina Del Rey in the morning. We fished LA to San Diego with mixed results for the next five days. The wind came up and cooled the water offshore from 70 to 60 degrees early in our trip so fishing was spotty. But what an adventure it was to share all the things I grew up with in SoCal with these boys who still think it's cool to hang out with their dads!
Our (my son has laid claim to it) 1990 Montauk handle the strain of the heavy load and long runs like it was built for that the only issue being a overheat alarm sounding one time. We bought the impeller kit and planned to install but after talking with the local we were convinced to see if it sounded again as kelp on the engine intakes commonly causes an alarm. We ran it hard for two more days without another alarm so I'm assuming it's good.
