I recently purchased a 94 15' Rage with 130psi with compression (cold) on all 4 cylinders on the 115hp motor. The previous owner had the VDO (?) changed and it didn't help. I am looking for suggestions, I expected to have to rebuild the engine, but I was hoping for sugestions. i will be looking at the carbs this weekend, unless I get pointed in other directions. Also how can the boat be run out of water?
Thanks

What kind of RPM's are you getting at WOT. Does it appear to be getting to WOT...........How about weight distribution? Is there anything in the stern that could be moved forward?

Thanks for the quick reply, The rpms seem to be fine at WOT without any bogging, I am alone on the boat with minimum gear.

Do you have a tach on the boat so you know what RPMs it is really turning at WOT? Have you inspected the impeller? Was it running like this when you bought it?

Just a WAG here: Could it be a shear pin on the prop?

We really need to know the tach reading. Otherwise it is almost impossible to diagnose the problem without being there.
Could be lots of things.
Could be a spun prop hub if you have that type of prop but we can't tell because we need a tach reading.

Have you removed your jet? It sounds like you have debris stuck in the impellor. It takes no more than five minutes to remove and check. Hope this helps.

If you look at the transom of the boat there is a silver handle on each side to release the impeller section. Pull them away from the drive to release it and slide the impeller unit back towards you. Check to make sure the impeller blades spin absolutely free. The problem you are having sounds just like what I experienced about 3 years ago. I replaced the bearings and seals and have had no power problems since. A flush adapter is required to run the boat on the trailer, if you look at the housing on the transom of the boat with the impeller unit pulled back there is a small hole top center, the flush adapter goes in this hole and you push the impeller unit in to hold in place.

This is a cold thread, but I am having the same issue. WOT only has about 3k RPMs, but she runs like a horse on the flush mount out of the water. The whole problem is under load. Any suggestions/
