I would like to try something a little different this month concerning the monthly Poll.
In the past, I haven't gotten around to post all the results even though all of the members can view the results and who voted for what.
This month, I would like to know what the "Other" brand is in advance. So, for those of you that have voted for "Other", please let us know what that other brand is and post it here.
This months Poll is a list of the members favorite choice of engine brand.
This again is NOT a war, we only want to find out what everyone's favorite brand is.
My assumption is all major outboard manufacturers engines are good these days.
All brands of engines will have a lemon from time to time. It happens to all manufacturers of almost any product from toasters to the space shuttle.
We will even get a bad lemon from time to time. What would you call that? A lemon lemon?
So this Poll is not about what engine is better, it is just to find out what most people's favorite choice in engine brand is.

My new whaler 150 Montauk came equipped with a Mercury 4-stroke 60 hp, which was fine with me. Before I retired I had the occasion to meet with engineers and designers at Mercury in Wisconsin, and to work on some new materials ideas with them. I was really impressed with what they were doing, and their new product development. They were playing catchup on the 4 strokes at that time, but seem to have gotten it right. This was about 6 years ago. Very pleased with the product.

Joe,
I voted other. At the time I bought my engine there were limited choices for a 40 hp short shaft. I wanted a two stroke and I liked what I had read about the injected engines and wanted to go that route. Although Nissan/Tohatsu would not have been my first choice, just because I had never owned one and they weren't jumping up and down on the popularity list, I now am extremely pleased with the performance, economy, and so far the reliability. I'll see how it goes.

I have to vote for the E-tecs, they are not by far the cheapest motor on
the market, but from what I was able to read about them on paper prior to
my purchase makes me feel the best about them. The promotional DVD
that the dealers give you speaks for itself in the side by side comparision.
They are super quiet and fuel efficient.
No scheduled maintance for 3 years, the ease of winterization (just set the throttle in a special position and turn the key a few times) and when I purchased mine it came with a 5 year warranty.

A little update on this Poll...
1. Please use the Poll on the bottom of the left sidebar to cast your vote.
2. Place your vote for your favorite brand of engine.... This does not mean you need to vote on what engine you have on your boat now but what brand of engine your would buy today if you needed one.
Moose,
I think you probably misunderstood #2 above.... This isn't a vote for what we have on our boats at this time. If you would like to change your vote, please let me know...
At this time we have 3 members that voted that their favorite engine is "Other".....
1. Moose = Nissan
2. ?
3. ?
I could look up the other 2 people but would rather wait until we hear from them.

Joe,
I'd be hard pressed to go against what's working. I'd get another Nissan.

No problem Moose.
Just wanted to make sure you voted correctly...
I changed my thread above to reflect your choice is Nissan so we only have 2 other people so far that we need to hear from to know there favorite choice.

This was a funny thought process for me. Overall, my first choice would be Evinrude, which is how I voted. But for my boat, 130 Sport, it would not be my first choice because the Evinrude E-Tec 40 is a 2-cylinder. I'd rather have a 3. So, my next choice overall would be Yamaha, but the Yamaha 40, although it is a 3-cyl, doesn't have EFI. Which leads me to my next choice, Mercury, 3-cyl and EFI, and that's what I've got.

There is no way today any of the 4 strokes can compete with the modern 2 stroke technology. A 2 stroke is just better. Waaaayyyyy less moving parts, same or better fuel economy, less weight, quiet, and much better performance from idle to WOT. ETEC will be my next purchase for years to come. Paul

I I were looking to buy a new outboard, I think it would be a Suzuki or an E-Tec . Wouldn`t consider a Merc. Used to be a Merc fan untill they discontinued the inline six.

Hey Joe - This worked well. Probably about as good as the "other" brand of motor these few voted as favorites (with the exception of moose and his Nissan). I think this should be the last time the poll goes this route. It seems people do not read directions or requests in full to answer such complicated discussion questions. Good Luck!

Rob,
I think you are correct.....
'Other' should not be used again as the people that vote this way don't seem to want to respond back.
If they want to vote 'other' in the future, too bad, they won't have the choice.
