I have had a hard time confirming age of the 13ft "project boat" I just picked up. Finally found a stencil S/N "5286" on the bottom of the forward locker. Unfortunately there is damage to the floor directly underneath the serial number; I can barely make out the 5; 286 are pretty clear. If this is the entire number, then the boat must be '61-'63 model. If it is missing a 2A, then it would be a '70 or so. Any way to determine early 60's boat from an early '70's??? For sure, this is the old style; full bulkhead in the stern; cutout transom; full length bow locker; etc. Suggestions welcome... thanks Hank
Welcome to WC. Since you found the number on the inside of the bow locker, I would say you have a 61-63 model. The later years were always on the transom.
The earliest 13s had the sprue hole (the 5" disc shape that was the point where foam was introduced into the hull) in the foredeck just in front of the bow locker. By the 1970s the sprue hole was moved to the bottom of the bow locker.
tom... that fits my boat. Out this AM spreading Smart Strip around that "sprue hole" and wondering about its function. Time to remove the paint in the bow. Looks like a 61-63 model to me. Thanks for all of the help... Hank
