Can someone tell me what prop is the best to run on a 90 etec mounted on a 16/17 ft whaler with no jack plate. I am trying out a viper 15 and a viper 17. I am also thinking about raising the engine up to the second hole which should raise the cavitation plate apprrox 2.5 to 3.0 inches above the keel when trimmed out.

Thank You

Gary

Hey Gary,

Just as a point of reference, I use a 13 X 19 inch stainless K series yamaha prop on my 17 BW. The prop turns the engine (90 yamaha 2 stroke) at 5200 RPM. Reads 42mph on a gps. The gear ratio is 2:1 Hole shot is pretty good. My engine is flush on the transom... I hope to raise it a hole or two.

I am sure you have many choices.... I would stay away from props designed for a bass boat, these are designed to run close to the surface and provide significant bow lift. I tried a 19 inch Michigan Wheel Ballistic with only fair results... MAX 4900 PRM...Sad Kind of a radical designed prop to begin with...

Hope that helps...

I have now propped many E-TEC 90 powered 16/17 foot Whalers. The prop of choice is the Stiletto Advantage 13-1/4" x 15".

The 17" Viper should be an OK prop as well.

The motor should be mounted at the very least one bolt hole up on the transom.
