I am purchasing a 1965 Nauset. I need to know the proper way to paint the outside of the hull. Should I look to the marine paint industry and follow a program?
Also, since I am so new to the forum and searching for whaler info.. and parts... is there a good source for info on building a console? I have seen some original whaler drawings... are there more recent and clearer drawings?
You can use "WEST SYSTEM" (I think it's called), an epoxy marine paint finish available at West Marine (Not affiliated with them but, they carry it). Works very well, hard, nice, finish !
MW... I was looking at the West System online. It is an apoxy resin. I have a hull that is stripped ... Not whit anymore. Will this product paint on like paint and color it (the hull) white?
I am looking to paint the hull white... new whaler decals... set the seating like a 16' Currituck. I am just unknowledgable and want to be sure.
I was going to repaint my bottom this year, as usual, I'm running out of time. I did'nt get the chance to do anything except anti-foul paint. I spoke with the Hull experts, and they kept pointing to west systems epoxy paint, they said thats the "best" !
You are correct. West System is an epoxy manufacturer. For decent general painting information, check out the Interlux website (www.yachtpaint.com). The information on their can be applied to most maring paint lines.
Interlux, Awlgrip (2-part paint only), Epiphanes, Petit and Sterling (2-part paint only) are excellent paint brands.
