I have a 2005 montauk 17 w/a mercury 90hp 4 stroke and the water pressure gauge is not registering any pressure at any speed. I was told by a mechanic, who worked on the engine for another issue, that as long as there is a stream of water coming from the engine there shouldn't be any issue and that it is most likely a blockage in the line. A) Is this true Is there anything to worry about if it remains blocked. Thanks
The gauge is fed by a tube that comes from the engine cooling system. This hose can get clogged with salt/grit etc.
To fix, pull the hose off the gauge and run the engine. There should be a flow. If there is a flow and the gauge is not working, the problem is the gauge.
If the hose is clogged, you need to get the salt/grime out.
