Well here is where the project sits today. Though being dirty and dusty from all wet sanding and working in the cockpit she is looking pretty good. I still have a couple lose ends to finish up such as wiring the new trim solenoid, finishing some gel coat repairs, and a complete detailing. I am really looking forward to getting her on the water in a week and see how she runs.

With this refit I did not document it in any way. What started out as installing a VHF snow balled into gutting all of the wiring, derigging the motor, and making all new wood parts for the boat. With a new born baby I had to do the work in hour time blocks every evening. This meant only about 45 minutes of real work time so it was a slow process. However, over the last two weekends my Whaler Restoration co worker (my father) really helped with the final push. I can not thank him enough for all of the help he has given.

So with that here are some images.

Here is the list of work:
-Removed repolished and reinstalled all stainless and chrome fittings
-Lots and lots of little gel coat repairs on the sides of the stern thanks to a boat lift
-Filled all of the holes from old transducers on the transom and resprayed gel coat
-Still working on the front of the keel (more boat hoist love)
-Refinished Bow Locker and installed hinges. Epoxy Base Coated and finished with a sprayed on Spar.
-Redid all of the thru-hulls (what a pain doing the splashwell)
-Removed front bucket seat backs and installed remade Montauk style rod holders with seat backs
-Removed Newport RPS seat back and made a new Montauk slatted style seat back out of Ribboned Sapele Mahogany. Epoxy Base Coated and finished with a sprayed on Spar.
- Remade all of the gauge panels out of Sapele Mahogany. Recessed new Uniden UM525 VHF, installed new switches, and Epoxy Base Coated and finished with a sprayed on Spar.
-Made a new sump cover out of Sapele Mahogany Epoxy Base Coated and finished with a Sprayed on Spar
-Installed existing GPS
-Installed new Garmin 300C fish finder
-removed old side mount throttle and installed Morse MT-2
-Bought and installed a new wiring harness for the motor and ignition switch.
-Gutted all existing wiring and rewired from motor to the battery and on to a new bus using all new Ancor Marine Grade line with heat shrink tubing on all connections. Also installed a 50 amp Blue Seas Breaker
-Derigged motor and completely stripped, sanded, and repainted the motor. Made new decals as well. Then rerigged with new cable ends, battery lines and fuel lines
-Removed old CMC tilt unit. Purchased and installed a used OEM OMC unit with new dash switch
-Installed new Ritchie D-85 Compass
-Stripped, Sanded and refinished OMC 6 gallon tanks
-Sanded and refinished the RPS Z Legs
-Moved RPS aft 3 inches
-Replace missing and old molding around the gunnel openings
-installed bildge pump
-I lost track.......Where am I?

Will post more images once she is clean and in the water.

Thanks guys

ioptom,
I decided to name her "Hells Bells". I took the name off the Outrage when I sold it just incase I wanted to use it again. After thinking about it I will most likely carry the name to any boat I own. It was the name of my Grandfather's boat and I just like carrying the tradition.

Ed,
Yes I have seen that Newport for sale. It has gone through 3 auctions with out a buyer before the no reserve auction. Nice boat however, it could be very nice with out bottom paint and having a new red rub rail on her.

As for the RPS. Since I added the rod holders in front of the console I did not want them in the seat back for the same reason I did not want handles either. It is a comfort thing. I find myself always piloting with the seat back forward and sitting a top it. Much like a leaning post. With the rod holders and handles it gets uncomfortable after a couple minutes.

Rob,
While at the mechanic yesterday for final inspection and a tune up there was a guy who already wanted to buy it. This one is not for sale.......yet......Wink

good points Jeff
I do like the clean look of the RPS like that. Did you get your seats from Halls? They looks great too.
I didnt even notice the bottom till i loooked at the pics again. The detail on the transom is great, with the newly painter motor ect. Nice job!!
Can you elaborate on the issues with replacing the drain tubes on the splash well?

I thought you would keep that name...........I recall the pics of you in the Outrage and you looked like Hells Bells coming across the water! Grin Not a name that others would have either I would think. We going to get to see some action shots of her? Smile

Well this weekend brought the first use of the boat. It was a great day on the lake and it was nice to have some other Whaler Friends along. I know Buckda has some images of it up and running but here is a shot of her at the end of the day just before getting put back on the trailer.

BTW DaveS,

I do'nt Sleep. Sad

This was the best part of the whole day though. Quinton's first ever boat ride. I got him hooked after only 5 months!

Talk about a proud day.

Jeff,

The boat looks absolutely stunning! You are truly a tireless man. I probably shouldn't describe the RPS this way, but I will: It looks luscious!

My old Sakonnet had a 100 HP Evinrude of similar vintage. A previous owner had repainted it before I bought it. The re-paint was of nowhere near the caliber of your work. I would like to re-paint my old 200 Suzuki some day, but unfortunately I don't have near the energy as you, so it may be a while.

Great job, you should be very proud.

Doug

You are amazing Jeff. And your work paid off. I bet that boat uses less than 1/2 the gas of your Outrage.
Where did you get the replacement molding for around the gunnel openings?

Thanks guys.

Harley,
The motor runs like a champ and starts right up. Who needs a new motor when the old ones just keep going and going and going so well.

Doug,
The RPS is out of Sapele Mahogany I got from Mike at Nautical Lumber. My father in law and I built and and once I sprayed it the wood looked so rich. I love it.

Roger,
The trim can be bought at most West Marine stores in the rub rail section. It is white and is made by Taco and it is just called flexible trim. I used the 5/32" in White. See here. I know it is a bite pricey at the store however, I found it at an Automotive trim shop locally in Warren for a 1/4 the price.

MW,
Though the picture does not show it Quin had a ball. The second day he slept for the entire 2.5 hour ride around Spring Lake and the on Grand River
