On my 18 dauntless they are threaded on outside. More srupid questions from new whaler owner. Thanks for your help. George

I asked the same one about the anchor locker and was told that the drain plug was not necessary because it continuously drains (on my Montauk). I took the plug out and haven't used it since. I don't think that you would want to seal the drains on the motor well, as on mine anyway, water would drain back into the boat if the well filled up. Jack Edited by CapnJs on 06/24/08 - 4:41 AM

Owners have questioned which to plug and which to leave open. The consensus is: Leave the anchor locker and splashwell drains unplugged. For the deck drains, it is personal preference. If you leave them open, some water will come in if there are people standing at the stern while at rest but will drain when the weight is not there. Having the plug on the inside is the preferred technique. I would be interested to see a photo of the threaded tube. Can you post a photo? Keep the questions coming. Member Personal Page Posts: 439 Comments: 2 Joined: 07/11/07	I agree with most of this. I leave the plug on the inside of my anchor locker in all the time unless Im washing the boat on the tailer. The reason I leave it in is that I hated the anchor line and whatever else was in the anchor locker always getting wet and mildewed. On the other hand, if any rain moisture gets in there it gets mildewed anyway. Maybe I'll have to rethink it... Ed 1991 Montauk 17 - 2012 ETEC 90HP

Member Posts: 8 Comments: 0 Joined: 06/19/08	MY boat came with 2 offwhite threaded plastic plugs which fit the motorwell(splashwell?) area from the outside. These plugs also fit the thru the hull anchor locker drain on the hull side of the anchor locker . Inside the anchor locker is a standard 1 inch black twist plug. I assume the deck drains would be pluged with this same 1 inch black twist plugs from inside the deck. I'l attempt a picture later. Thanks George

My dauntless has self bailing cockpit with some type of one way valve so no need to plug deck drains. Thanks again for the ideas. Great site, people are very helpful. George. P.S.
