From your photos you look to have an after market console so it is hard to tell what model it was when it left the factory. You might try sending Chuck Bennett an email at Boston Whaler. [mail]cbennett@whaler.com[/mail] He can tell you what model is was when it left the factory. You also seem to have the newer style RPS. The prior owner seemed to want to turn this boat into a Montauk model. There is a close resemblance but the console is not original. Very nice Whaler though.

Member Posts: 1987 Comments: 34 Joined: 04/02/05	That RPS in a whaler OEM RPS however it is from 1972 or later and was never installed on a Eastport, Nauset, or Sakonnet. The first hulls with this style RPS were the 19 and 21 Outrage II as well as the Cohasset II. Those seats used metal Z legs though. Member Personal Page Posts: 14 Comments: 0 Joined: 02/20/08	i got a reply back from chuck and he said it was built in Rockland, MA factory as a 16'7" Katama and was originally shipped out on 8/20/71. jeff the rps is still in gtood shape also too. no tear in it. the last owner took good care of it. the only thing i need to do is to find something to clean it so see if i can get some of the dirt off of it. binkie from what i can find on the motor serial number it is a 1973 merc so it may be the orginal motor that was on it. this motor was working fine for me for the first year but now it seem to have starting issues. i have to spray some carb cleaner into it to get it starting. thats the only issues so far that i seem to have issues with. i think the trailer is also the original trailer that it came with. it is also a 1971 trailer but it needs to get change soon. the axel have seen it days and is rusting and cracked.

Member Personal Page Posts: 2012 Comments: 0 Joined: 12/19/05	You need to decarbonize that old Merc. I do it to all my old motors, and then once a year to keep them free of carbon. Carb cleaner won`t do the job. Get a spray can of Sea Foam at the auto parts store. Spray it in the carbs at fast idle, about 1/2 the can, Then slow the motor to slow idle, and spray it till motor dies. Tilt motor up and remove plugs and spray some in each cylinder, turn over the motor by hand, and let sit over night. the next day start it up, and use up rest of can in the carbs. Run as fast idle until all the smoke clears. The decarb solution will turn all the carbon to a liquid, and it comes out the exhaust along with the smoke. Your motor will now run like new, no kidding. rich

Member Personal Page Posts: 14 Comments: 0 Joined: 02/20/08	i've sprayed half a can of johnson brand decarb into the motor like 4 days ago but i didn't restart it yet. i also didn't know i had to spray it into the spark plug as well. when turning the motor by hand all i need to do is get a socket that will fit the one that the prop is on and turn it clockwise? can i still spray it into the spark plug or should i wait?

Tilt the motor up, remove the sparkplugs and spray quite a bit in the holes. then turn the flywheel slowly by hand 3 or 4 times, clockwise. Then replace the plugs and the wires, but leave the motor tilted up until ready to start. This will be you when you run the boat in the water.. Also run it hard to finish blowing the carbon out. rich
