I am refinishing a Sport 15 and the previous owner had a 30 HP clamp-on motor installed. I want to pre-drill the holes in the transom to mount another motor before I paint the boat. Are the bolt hole location dimensions standard for all engines in the 50 to 70 HP range or will I have to wait until I get the motor before I drill? If the mount hole locations are standard, what are the dimensions?
Most Mechcanics should have a "HANG ON" metal template that hangs over the transom and has center line markings and prelocated drill shafts. I makes things very easy. You just have to have a good enough relationship with you mechcanic for him to let you barrow it.
