I have a 80 model montauk, I have found some really good deals on motors that are 25 in shaft ( I know the montauk uses a 20 shaft ) If I put a jack plate on in and then put the motor on it do you think that will work and if so do you think it will look really odd ??? Thanks for the help .... Kevin

Don't do it. Wait for a good deal on a 20" shaft length motor.

20" shaft motors are plentiful. Wait like Tom suggested.

It might look OK to you, but not OK to the person you want to sell the boat too someday. Take Tom`s advice.

There is another board I frequent - a guy there did the same thing you are asking about.... I asked him how he liked it and here is his quote. Note I asked about ride height too as it was a 100HP four stroke. Anyway here is the quote;

"It rides a little lower, but not much. I got the motor for $1500 less because of the 25" shaft and they threw the plate in for free. I probably wouldn't do it again."

Note the probably wouldn't do it again part... thats real world advise from someone who has already done it.

When I saw the picture he posted I just had to ask. I really thought it looked odd and my goodness has to be heavy too.
