I was interested in and still looking for a 16/17 in Florida and I ran into a question I can't figure out. You guys may have answered this before but I'm not sure. I have a 4 cyl Toyota Camry that can tow 2000 LB and in the "dimensions & history" specs guide I noticed that the 16/17 models were from 850 pounds to 950 pounds. I'm figuring that this weight is only the hull. What do you think are my chances launching a 16/17 footer with my current automobile and pulling it back from the ramp without sinking my car : )
As John notes you will be at your limit, if not over by a few pounds. But it really depends on how much towing you plan to do. If only occasional towing (meaning launch at the beginning and pull out at the end of the of the season) ... you should be OK.
Another thing to be aware of is stopping distance. With a relatively light car you will feel the 2000LBS behind you while driving.
Unless you are launching from a really spartan launch ramp (not paved and steep) you should be fine.
