I'm a few weekends away from putting my 1989 Outrage 18 in the water for "my" first time. I purchased the boat with 1/4 tank of fuel and put stabilizer before storing it for the winter.

Should I fill the tank with new gas or try to burn as much "old" fuel as possible?

Thanks,

Mike

How much fuel is a quarter tank? I would think you should fill up the tank and go hit the water!

But, I am no expert. All my local marinas are telling us that we should only fill the tanks with as much gas as we need and use some stabil in it year round. They are claiming that the longer the gas sits, the more water it will absorb.

Let us know what you decide...

Mike,
fill the tank, and add stabilizer. Get to 1/2 a tank and do it again. Do you have ethanol there or are you still mostly regular gas? Also, make sure you have a good water separator filter and if your in doubt about the age of the gas and the condition of the tank, I would change it after the first 1/2 tank. It might be overkill but better safe than sorry

I would fill the tank but not add any additives. Just run the boat and have fun.

Mike -

While I can see you have done a lot of work, have you replaced the fuel/water separator cartridge and the cartrige under the cowl?

Even if they look new, change them. Bring a spare water separator filter on the boat. After running for a few hours, check the filter to see how much water is present.

Even more important, if the filter bracket is old, check the underside and the ports for corrosion. This can really clog your fuel system.

She looks great.

I appreciate the input and help. I have elected to fill the tank with regular fuel, change the fuel/water seperator filter and head out on the water.

I will post pictures and notes from my first voyage.

Thanks again!

Mike
