Hey all,
I have a 11' whaler built in '79. I've been looking all over for a 20 HP setup for her and recently found a nice package. The motor is mounted on, but the shape of the stern, dropping low where the motor mounts does not allow for the steering cable and piston to fit. Am I limited to a cable and pulley system? Have any of you come up against this?
Greg
that engine probably isnt very heavy, you could remove the engine instal the cable into the engine then then reinstal it. is the engine bolted on or mounted with the braket?
The motor is easily clamped on and I can move it around all I want, but the piston on the teleflex steering runs right into the curve on the stern when the motor is in position. The flexible end will barely fit if at all but the piston end is not even close.
I would keep the cable and pulley steering. It is the safest steering available and gives you the best response on small boats, that's why its mandatory on racing boats. Why change a good thing.
