I took the Whaler out yesterday in Lake Lavon Texas to do a little fishing and caught this catfish. He was a little fella so I threw him back to get a little bigger.

Had a great day on the Whaler!!

You know what they say, a bad day's fishing.... Even just being out on the water looks great, keep it up!

Good luck with the fishing, hope you catch a whopper. What's the preferred bait for catfish down there in Texas?

I don't use anything fancy when it comes to the bait. Typically I put a worm (CAnadian Night Crawler) on a hook and then about four feet up the line I attach a bobber. I cast it out there and wait while sipping on some cool brews. When a fish starts to play with it, I set my brew down and set the hook.....pretty simple and laid back. I hear that using minnows in Lake Lavon will increase my chances for catching the fish. Right now I am happy sitting in the Whaler, listening to the water lapping up against the bottom of the boat, throwing back some brews and tugging in the occasional fish....(Typically small ones for me, LOL).

Hey Scott, I still laugh at the "Pull your bottom lip over your head and swallow" comment a few months back....that was FUNNY!!

I remember catching Catfish years ago, we used biscuit or muffin dough balled up covering the entire hook. The stuff worked great. Catfish are good eating too, good luck on the next trip.

CES,
I've found that fishing the bottom is much more productive for catfish. I like to use a small slip sinker to get the bait down there and then I can feel the bite because the line slips thru the weight.

When fishing in Florida saltwater, the problem is how to avoid catching catfish.

When I lived in S. Fl. I hated catching catfish.... But now a days, it's just a fish and I am happy with that.

Funny thing about this particular catfish shown above, I am catching a lot of grief about it because it's so small from my friends....hahahaha. That's okay, I know that everything is BIGGER in Texas so I'll just say that this catfish just hatched two days before I caught it....the thing was BORN this big. Haha.... so it is a Texas sized catfish after all. Grin

As promised, here's my latest catch from the Whaler. It's a yellow bass, hope you can see it.

That's the second smallest fish I've ever seen on a line. The 1st smallest was what I thought to be a shell stuck on my hook, I snagged a Flounder once by the tail the size of a quarter...."RELEASED"...Hey at least you're out fishing, I'M NOT ! Love the Pics !

CES,

Your Personal Page shows a picture of three kids holding a much larger fish. Perhaps you should get some pointers from them....

See you at the Texas Memorial Day Outing. We will try to catch some bigger ones there!
