I need a boat cover for my Nauset. It has railings all the way around. It will be mostly stored, not trailered. I would like a nice fit, not something loose (I like a heavy weight too). Who makes the recommended cover for a Whaler?

I'll give them a call today. Unfortunately their web site has very few details. I want to know things like fabric weight, type, and fastening method. I'm sure I can get that over the phone though.

Did you buy one? I wouldn't be surprised if I could have my local canvas guy custom make one (that actually covers the engine) for less than that.

No, thats out of my league. I'm sure they are great covers but I agree with you, you can probably get one made for 1/2 of that. I am also looking at the covers Cabela's has, they have some made for BW's and only $200.

David and RWhite Jr.

While Mill's products are not cheap, they are very well made and fit. You can buy a generic for $300 but in the end the Mills cover fits like a glove for each model and will last a l...o...n...g... time.

I have yet to hear of a member who has found a local source who can come close to a Mills for less money.

I purchased a "Carver Industries" cover with trailer tie down for my Montauk deliverd for just under $275. It's a heavy cover and looks good (grey only). It's also made in the USA. I bought it through "Covers Direct Corp". They were helpfull in the selection process and answered my questions. The price was good for me and I think I got my monies worth.

I also bought one of the Carver covers, but from Ebay where Betty Depner lists herself from the factory direct. Search under "Boston Whaler boat covers".

It's semi custom but fits my 21 Cuddy extremely well for half the cost of a Mills custom ($500). Still looking good on it's second year. Included a tie down cover kit and you can get support poles for extra cost.

She took time to carefully take my measurements with personalized customer service. Two Thumbs up!

Walmart sells boat covers for about $125. Not custom of course, but not bad for the money. Try it and if you don`t like the fit, just return it. Guaranteed for 3 years too. I have one on my bass boat for two years, and one on my 13 Whaler, but the whaler is in a covered shelter and doesn`t get wet. You get what you pay for with Mills, but I`m not going to pay that much either.

Honestly,

I feel Mills tends to play up the OEM nature of their product which clearly reflected in the cost. Personally, and this is MY opinion. "Nothing I have seen from Mills has made me think...Wow that really blows me away!" Every piece I have seen looks very high quality but, honestly, I have someone local I think does just as good of a job if not better because the boat is right there at their shop. I know many people who curse their Mills tops every time they have to put them up. Sure they may have been the OEM supplier but every boat is slightly different and for me their product is an off the shelf item. Not custom. When I can get custom for less than the of the shelf product myself I would choose the custom item.

I understand MANY my think I am crazy for having this opinion but, hey I am just one guy.

Anyway David, any good mooring cover is a nice add to the boat. Also, whether it was a great $250 mooring cover or a $1000 cover they both effect resale prices the same. Which is not really that much.

Just got a Titan cover(size listed as Montauk w/ rails) from Overton's, fits great on my Katama and is a nice material for under $250 bucks delivered. We will see how long it lasts now, but it has a 6 year warranty so I'm betting 6 years.
