I wanted to get some feedback from all of yo on replacing my hull decals. I emailed Janis at Magic Brush and she gave me the prices for the "whaler" and "montauk 17" decals. Seemed resonable enough. After loooking on ebay I see many decals that seems to be the same measurements and "looK" for half the price. I want the same exact decals as are on the boat now, Direct replacement. Are Magic Brush's decals perfect? I certainily dont mind paying alittle lore to have whats correct.
Thanks for any info you all can give mePfft

You raise a good question.

While the E Bay decals may be okay, Janis is the OEM supplier and they will be right. I realize it is more money. The thing I have learned with my whaler is, you get what you pay for.

egerrity,

I have extra sets of the decals for the Montauk. Both the Whaler Logo and the Montauk logo. Send me a PM and am willing to help.

Nothing looks worse on a whaler than non-logo-correct decals. Being a professional Artist / Designer and having a love for whalers I have spend a lot of time examining the whaler logos through the years. I even bought a lot of some 1400+ decals from a whaler garage factory sale and I have to say through the years there where subtle changes to the logo. So what really is logo correct? Well for the classic hulls the logo must always slope towards the bow of the boat and on the port side the word Boston must fall in front of the harpoon. The (R) trademark must be in place and fall under the bow of the sled on the logo. There were also subtle changes to the harpoon over the years however, I do not believe is was do to logo changes but more around production techniques.

I looked ar EBAY again and most of them are wrong then. The word "Boston" is after the harpoon on the port side decal....

Most of the fonts (letter shape) and leading (spacing between letters) used on the Ebay logos are wrong as well.

Hold the line on quality here. This is a highly visible area. The cosmetic requirements on the logo are, in my opinion, unforgiving of less that perfect. The price of correct is something you'll soon forget but looking at something that just doesn't cut it will catch your eye every time.

The easiest and cheapest place to find OEM logos that I've found is my local Boston Whaler dealer. $8 for a set of two genuine OEM replacement logos. Pretty hard to beat if you ask me.

I bought all new logos for my 1984 Montauk, after I had the gelcoat redone, from MagicBrush. Check out the photos on my personnal page, "Winnipesaukee Whaler". The decals were perfect, easy to apply and they did the hull numbers to match. I emailed Chuck Bennett at Boston Whaler and he emailed me back with the dimensions for locating them properly on my '84.
