I am pretty sure you need a 20" shaft on a 1976 Whaler - If you can show a picture of your boat it would help - Is the transom flat across the top or does it have a notch down where the motor mounts? Are there Center Consoles that would work with this little boat or do I need to customize one? I sure would like to stand and pilot with a 40hp on this little boat.

I am thinking of using mahogany to construct a center console. My whaler needs a great deal of tlc...I don't have time to fix all the fiberglass before the trout start biting....I'm fishing as-is this summer and may work on the hull and glass next winter. I picked up boat, trailer, mahogany benches and side rails, new-in-box bimini top, stainless rails, steering cable and wheel for $600. I guess that is a fair price. The more I look at the boat, the more I like it. Get used to seeing me on here, because I'll have a lot of questions...I'm sure.
