whaler enthusiasts, this is my first posting since joining this great site.
i am working on restoring 1968 Currituck, getting close. i am in search of a center cap for my white 3 spoked wheel (think original) in the meantime i want to turn one out of wood. however i am away from my boat (in school) where the lathe is, so does anyone know the dimensions of the center hole in the wheel? thanks a bunch.

Yes, I have one and i can take detailed pics but im out of batteries for my camera. I should be able to grab some later this week, are you in a rush? Since ours is used primarily in salt water i decided not to use it and just finish it with an SS nut, the orginal cap is chromed pot metal.
actually, we may be thinking of a different wheel, 3 spokes? Is it metal or plastic? The one im thinking of goes with the metal wheel, there was a later plastic one and I believe and earlier plastic one as well. Ive never seen either of the plastic ones up close
I have seen the 3 spoke wheel before in the older catalogs but we don't have any photos of them here at this time that I remember.

Joe, Is that the one? Is there any reason to how some of these boats were outfitted? It seems like they used different wheels on different boats. That is an older example, but I thought id seen the metal wheel used as early as that.

joe, when i get back home for spring break i can take some pictures and send them in if you still want them. not sure of brand, but will look.
Andrew, that is the 3 spoke wheel I have seen.
There have been other steering wheels also. I had an Atwood on my 1970 Sport 13 and I have seen the Atwood on others also.
In later years, they started using the Stainless Destroyer wheel on certain models. These had 5 or 6 spokes depending on the year model.

drandlett, the cap I was thinking of was for the metal 4 spoke wheel which is a completely different beast, sorry about the confusion. Enjoy your spring break, I still have another loooong week.
