Has anyone had experience removing and replacing decals for a 90 Merc? I'm afraid to start tearing the old decals off and only being able to get them part of the way off.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Jack

I've found that you can soak old dried decals with oil, solvent or WD40 and if you take your time you can get the old ones off without marring the surface. You may have to do it several times, but they will come of. Be careful trying to use any sort of paint remover or thinner as they will discolor the surface paint.

"WD-40" will work, I use a can of "100% pure silicone spray" (hardwr store) for melting adhesives, it's not any better than "WD-40", just a bit faster.

You might want to try to heat and peel the decal with a hair dryer. The heat will loosen the adhesive.

If your thinking of painting (don't) use silicone sprays.

We are currently replacing the old ones on a 73 Merc 1150. Here is a place that can supply new ones. They look very good.

www.autographicsltd.com

Cost about $50.00 per set.

I too have been looking for new decals for my 1987 Yamaha 40 hp. Can anyone point me in the right direction to find them?
