Joey,
There are a lot of good 2 stroke outboard oils out there.
However, I am a FIRM believer in using the brand of oil which is the same as your motor.
Example:
Evinrude = Evinrude Oil
Mercury = Mercury Oil
Yamaha = Yamaha Oil
etc., etc., etc............

I run whatever is on sale in my old dogs...However, if I was running a new motor I would run the manufacturers brand.

I run Evinrude XD100 in the new engine, but in my old Merc I was running West Marine TCW3.

Kamie, you might add that the XD-100 Oil is a synthethic oil and the motor has to be programed at the dealer to use it. I use the same oil in my 60 ETEC

Just make sure that what ever brand you use, it is "B.M.I" (Boating Manufacturers Institute) or "NMMA" (National Marine Manufacturers Association) rated, most 2-stroke oils are now "TC3" (Teflon added). Marine 2-stroke oil should say on it "TC -W2" 2-stroke outboard oil, this means that it is rated for "2-stroke water cooled engines", this type of oil may be used in outboards, AND lawn equipt. AND air cooled engines. There is another type of 2-stroke oil made specifically for air-cooled engines (usually green in color), it can be used on any"AIR COOLED" two cycle engine EXCEPT "WATER COOLED" OUTBOARDS, so look for "NMMA" or "BIA" certified on the bottle of oil that you are about to purchase, also look for "T-WC" (Two Cycle Water Cooled), remember that measurements differ with different brands of oil, "West Marine" oil is 3.4 oz of oil added to ea. gallon of gas, as where the manufacturer's brand may only require 2.8 oz of oil adder per gallon of fuel, so what looks like a bargain, may not be a bargain, as the concentration differs.

Are you saying that the case of Evinrude/Johnson TC-W2 that is in my garage can be used in the 30 HP Evinrude on the 13?

Should be no problem, they started adding "Teflon" to make TC-3 (from TC-2) somewhere around 1989. I would use "Carbon Guard" with it though, Yammy users should add "Ring Free" every time they top off the tank. This prevents carbon build up (the number 1 killer of outboards), and hot spots on the pistons, and cylinders, remember that today's fuel quality is the worst it's EVER been in the industry.

I agree with Joe and always (try to) run the same oil brand as the motor. I use Evinrude oil for the Johnson 115 as well as the Evinrude kicker. With that said, I am guilty on occasion of showing up to the pump and having to use a “generic” brand.

When I was rebuilding a non-looper V6 engine years back, I took the block to a outboard rebuilder who had an excellent reputation to have him mic it out. He told me basically what Joe said, stick to the manufacturers oil and to use no-name was asking for trouble. Never used anything else since.
