Question about selling a Whaler?

Hello all,
Regretfully, I have a question. I am in mid restoration of my 88 Montauk.
I do not have the time I thought I would to work on it, and could use the money.
Is it better to finish the basics then post for sale, or sell it as it sits. The hull is in great shape. I have redone all the wood work. I have run new wiring to the bow and replaced the lights.
Whats left? rewiring the console, re-running fuel lines, re-setting the front cooler, and general maint. on the 90 horse Yamaha.
Let me know your opinion.

You will get more money if you finish the work. Not sure what it would sell for unfinished, I guess if its priced right you could sell it fast. Post some pictures in the "Whalers For Sale" forum maybe you'll get some offers?

Mike is correct, lots of buyers are scared off my non-turnkey boats. Put yours next to one that they can jump in and go, even if that one is older and needs work, you will loose out. I would finish the fuel lines and run the wires. You don't have to make them 100% neat just get it to where the boat can function.

If it is working leave it. Kamie is correct, most of the boat buying public wants something that can be used when they pull from your driveway. My advice is to make sure the motor runs, T/T works, tach works, running lights work, trailer lights work. If its an accessory and it does not work remove it. Then make it as clean/well maintained as you wish. Put it for sale. You probably have 2 or 3 months before most people start getting boat buying fever. Just my 2 cents worth.

Given this is a slow time of the year and the market appears soft, I would finish the work you planned. There are a fair number of used boats for sale and one in really good shape will sell a lot faster.

I'm always in the market for a good Whaler.
Not interested in stealing it but the price has to be right for me so I can fix it up a resell it.
I wouldn't mind a trip to Colorado if the price is right.

As Joe said it depends what you have into it and what you would like to get for it?

I would go ahead and get it sea worthy before selling. Not too many people look for a project to finish. I myself wouldn't mind it, but other people will.
