Can anyone provide the height of an original mahog console for a Nauset? Not to the windshield, just to the flat top of the console body

Mine is 30-3/4" to the top of the main flat surface.
There are square strips of wood on the front edge (laying horizontally) that raise it slightly more, and the vertical piece that the instruments attach to extends above the flat surface as well. The height to the top of the vertical piece of wood is 31-1/2".
Again, this is not the main flat surface.
I don't know why mine is different. Its a very original 1963 Nauset.

Not all measuring devices are created equal.
Some are just plain off.
I know several carpenter crews who check and compare all the tape measures to make sure everyones tape measure measures the same. Yes, some have been off.
This is fairly common practice for carpenter crews from what I understand.

...and I just did a quick check on my pdf of the blue prints for the console. There is no total measurement from top to bottom, only individual pieces of wood.
Also of note. The original blue prints show rectangular cut outs on the face of the console where guages would go (I have seen many like this during restoration). Mine is not like that. My wood was individually cut out for any guages or switches that went into the console. No big rectangular cut outs.
If I had to guess, I would say that these things were hand built and every one might be a little different.

And blue prints have updates too.
As you can see by some of the other drawings, they all have dates for the updates.
Some have year changes etc.. Others just have a date change in the box.
So, things change as they go along.

Excellent responses, thank you. I am doing a functional restoration on a bare hull (a bit of original style, a bit of what suits me) and will be drawing a console to build. Probably will make the console an inch or two smaller and use solid mahogany [less expensive considering shipping and about the same amt of work after taping the end grain]. One last question...how do you like the angle of the original steering wheel? If you could, would you make it more verticle or horizontal?

hey Makanihula!
I have a suggestion on your helm question. I recently rebuilt my pilot seat and moved it aft about 3 inches. This gives more knee room and makes it easier to get under the console for wiring repairs and such. ChrisG
