I'm new to this site, never had a whaler before and I just bought a 72' Katama non-smirked. Is one better than the other? Anything to watch out for? Thanks and what a great website!

chiburis4,

Welcome to WhalerCentral.

The later Smirked hulls rode slightly better and had a little less water spray in sloppy conditions.
Not that big of a deal unless you do this 8 hours a day....

I'm sure you will enjoy your Whaler.........

Yes the smirked hulls to ride a bit better but the non smirked hulls tend to be faster with the same Hp than the same smirked hull. Grin Everything has it's goods and bads.

I`ve ridden both smirked and non smirked 13 footer, and never saw an advantage one had over the other. I always felt that the smirked hull were slightly better looking from the bow.
