Scrimshaw, I just saw your question on my personal page. Yes, my Florida registration says 72 but the hull number is 00888. I don't think they started making the "smooth side" until the 73 model. I also remember someone, I think Joe, indicating that the hull number indicated the month built and BW started their year in August. This hull number makes me think that the boat is a 73. Also, I e-mailed BW and the reply indicated that my boat was picked up at the factory in September 1973 but didn't give the year of the boat.
I own hull #s 00250 and # 00283, 00250 was shipped from Whaler in March of 1971, You may have a 72 model as the console appears to be that of a ribbed version that was last produced in 1972.
