I'm looking to fully restore a mid 70s 17 Montauk. The entire interior of the hull needs to be replaced because I believe everything under the original floor is rotten and or needs to be replaced. I was wondering if anyone knew of any small dealers or individuals who specialize in this type of hull restoration, especially on the east coast from South Carolina up to Virginia. I would greatly appreciatte any help. Thank you very much.
What makes you think the interior needs to be replaced? Photo's would help us, see what your seeing. What's under the floor is foam so it's highly unlikely that it's rotten. It could have water in it but unless you have open screw holes in the deck and/or holes below the waterline it may not be as bad as you imagine.
Lets see some pics, It's a "Whaler", it can't be that bad. Take a look around at some of these "WC" project boats (including mine), many people would have written these boats off as "DEAD/UNREPAIRABLE" but, as you see, they bounce back from the dead pretty well, with a lot less effort into the repair work as other boats would require. I saw a really sweet deal on Baja 28' sport fisherman in mint shape last week, the only problem I could find with it was that "IT WAS'NT A WHALER" !
I'm finishing up a 13' and have recently completed 16', 17', and 2 13' whalers. There are several people in the Wilmington area that I know that may be able to help you. Where are you located?
