What price range would I be looking at for 1996 Outrage 21 w/ T-Top, very good trailer, full cover and 1997 Yamaha 200. I know there are a variety of factors but what would the hi-lo be? I would check NADA but it just doesn't seem to work for Whalers. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Billy

Billy,

I prefer to use Boattrader as a general rule for what folks are asking. Looks like a price range of 18k to 40k depending on year and options is the range for the 21's. The 200hp is the lower end of the power range so if possible get a sea trial. Also, does the boat have trim tabs, very helpful for countering all the bad tenancies from the T-top.

I'll check on the trim tabs. Thanks for that tip I wouldn't have thought about that.

So what is the HP rating of a '96 Outrage 21? Do you think that's underpowered?

Range for the 1996 21 Outrage was 150HP to 300 HP. If your seriously looking at the boat then I would ask for a sea trial and bring along a couple of friends to take the ride.
If you always plan at least 4 people then don't do the sea trial with just 2. If you only plan one or two folks, then sea trial with that many. I have never been on an 21 Outrage of that vintage so I don't know how she behaves with a 200HP, just saying to try before you buy and in as close to the conditions you plan to use her as possible. I usually boat with just myself and that is how I have my boat setup, when I put 3 friends in my boat, the boat acts differently, planes slower, runs more bow high or lists depending on where folks are sitting.

To me it is sad to hear folks complain about their boat or not have a good time, when the boat isn't setup for the way they want to use it. Boats are all about compromise and getting one that works for 80% of what you want to do with it, will be much better than getting a boat that only works for 20%

I have a chance to get it for $13,000. It does not have trim tabs. How much would it cost to have them installed (ballpark)? The pictures say it's in good shape, but I know I would have to see it in person. That seems like a steal to me but I know I still need to be careful.
