One of my under gunwale rod holders got stomped on so I'm thinking of replacing all of them. Anybody know where I can buy new ones?
The ones on my 1984 Outrage 20 have room for 3 rods and are made of plywood.

You can always check Boaters World or West Marine. If it were my boat, I would remove the wood rod holders, pick up a small sheet of King Starboard (sanshade tan). Use the old ones as templates and cut out some new ones. The sanshade tan is a close match to Whaler tan. West Marine and Boaters World carry Starboard. Hope this helps.

Interesting idea Mike. Sue at Twin Cities sells starboard ones but I was thinking the wood would look nicer.
One good kick or stomp destroys that plywood though.
Thanks for the reply. Smile

Art -

Are yours a different design than the one on page 2 of the parts download page?

I think you could fabricate them yourself really easily in your basement/shop. It is going to be a long winter.

arthureld,

The mahogany plywood rod holders should last many years. They are very strong. After, they lasted us about 20 years.

One of mine was finally broken the season before last by a 36 pound salmon flapping its tail so I am also in need of one. I will probably replace them all however.

I have seen some very nice was for sale but they were made of solid teak. I do NOT think these would last. They really need to be plywood.

There were several types for the Outrages. (approximate years)
1. Early as shown in one of the drawings in the download section
2. 1980-1986, 3 rod holder
3. 1986-1989, 2 rod holder
Sometime after the above, they switched to starboard or whalerboard.

Mine are the 3 rod holder type made of mahogany plywood.
I would like to buy a set from someone that is making them as I don't really want to take the time to do it myself unless I have to.
I don't need the cleats or the hardware, just the rod holders themselves.

You're right, Joe. The solid teak rod holders, although they look really nice and are well made, will break easily without the opposing grains of plywood.

I kick my rod holders all the time.

Mine might be some cheap replacements. Joe, Sue at Twin Cities told me to check with Gil at Cedar Lake. He probably would rather make 8 at once so maybe we can order at the same time from him.
