Hi,

I'm trying to narrow down the year of my whaler since the stencil numbers are no longer on the inside of my transom.

Anyway, I have the white rub rail which puts me between 58 and 71. My hull also has the third grip handle in the transom......I'm wondering if anyone knows where this puts my hull within the 58-71 range?

Thanks,
ABL

Mine is a 1968 and has only two handles. That's all I can tell you about it.

Photo's would help a lot.
Transom height - 15 or 20 inch
splashwell design - full splashwell

Since the 13's changed around 71 - 72 in both color, non-smirk/smirk, splashwell design and the change was not a clear cut from one to the other you may only be able to tell pre-71 vs post-72.

If you have a title, does it have the stencil number as a reference number anywhere?

No title. The only reference to the three handle transom I found was on Whaler Central. There is a photo in this article showing the three handled transom.

http://continuouswave.com/whaler/cetacea/cetaceaPage51.html

Transom height is 15"
Splashwell is full from gunnel to gunnel.

Sorry no photos yet. She's all covered up for the winter, I'll check back in the spring when the real work begins.

I also have oar locks on the gunnels toward the forward deck. Are these on all 13 footers?

I think I may have something prior to '64, around '59 or so but I don't know. The mystery continues.

My 13 footer is a `61, and I have 3 grip handles on the stern. I guess you have an early hull too. What good it the 3rd grip handle any how?

Your guess is as good as mine, and I don't have one. My whaler is full of water too. So, Mine is standing in my back yard with 8 holes (2"dia.) in the transom along the bottom edge. I also removed about 15 gallons worth of saturated foam and 5 gallons worth of water. One of my "core" samples (15"long by 1" dia.) that was saturated is now completely dry after sitting in my basement for a month so I'm hoping the boat is getting dried out too. It's too cold now but maybe some dry months will help dry out the hull. In any case, it's an old whaler with issues. I hope to have it restored in the spring.
