My 1990 Montauk 17 is in "Like New" condition. I am very "fussy" about EVERYTHING ! No apologies.
Over the years, the 3-sided 'wrap-around' plexiglass "wind-screen" or windshield became "crazed" -- looking straight-on it was clear but at certain sun angles there was the appearance of annoying "crazing" like millions of internal miniscule cracks within the plexiglass.
I found two names of suppliers but neither was nearby and shipping this reasonably large and possibly brittle (it wasn't) but I thought I would trace a pattern rather than trying to ship my windshield. I wanted an exact match and I wanted the few mounting holes EXACTLY POSITIONED! Fussy? Yep!
It was then that I saw an ad in a Lake Erie oriented boating magazine. I visited the shop listed and I talked to the owner "Jeff Hood". Judging from the article posted on his lobby bulletin board and talking to him--I found an equally fussy boat-owner and capable "manufacturing guy".
With the close of the boating season here in NW Ohio, I took my Whaler's windshield to ALLIED PLASTICS, INC.
He very promptly completed my "project" --not a big challenge based on the tooling I saw in his shop.
I measured and compared every aspect of the new to the old--EXACT DUPLICATE ! That's what this fussy veteran Whaler owner/operator wanted. Here's the info:
Jeff Hood -- ALLIED PLASTICS INC.; 3203 South Avenue; Toledo, OH, 43609 ; 419-389-1688 or his cell 419-810-4681 or (removed email as NO email addresses are allowed here)
Toledo (and Allied) -- very accessible (For fussy people like me) Ohio Turnpike and I-75 in NW Ohio. This is an excellent supplier for the "Discerning Whaler Owner" (sounds better than "fussy").
Jeff Hood(Allied Plastics) made my bridge windshield for my Chris Craft Commander and it was perfect with a good pattern. I need to get my lazy butt out to the barn and get my 18 Outrage windshield to him because it is crazed.
