Please help - I'm new to this whaler world and boats in general.

My grandmother has a 1977 15' sport that has been in her boat house since they bought the place. It has been left unnoticed and forgotten. I want to make this thing a beauty that performs to the best of it's capabilities.

I am going to grab it tomorrow (9/25/21) and will know more about the condition it is in then. Any advice on key places to check to make sure it can be saved would be greatly appreciated.

I need help figuring out what motor I should put on it. I'm looking at 40 & 60 hp 4-stroke mercs right now. If anyone would recommend something else please let me know. If you know the pros and the cons of the 40 vs 60 that would be great too.

Any advice on where to find misc parts and decals and how to install them would be much appreciated as well. I will post before and after pictures!

The Yamaha F70 is the recommended engine. It the lightest in its class.

Plan to replace the drain tubes.

Only one OEM source for decals. www.magicbrushsign.com

Take lots of photos and post them for us.

The more details you give, the better the advice.

P.S Add your location to your profile so we can give you regional recommendations.

Thanks for the input. I hit my first snag in the project. The trailer I bought for it needs more work than expected so I plan to get the boat out of water next weekend instead. Will keep you posted. Here is a picture of the boat. It doesn't show much but there will be more to come.
