I recently replaced the 2 expansion plugs with one inch screw in type from Atwood. They are installed from the inside (transom) as they were when I purchased the boat. I only remove them at the end of season to clean the inside. Is it normal for them to leak slightly? I always have a small amount of weeping below each plug not attributed to rain or condensation. Is this normal?
Should I have used inch and a quarter size?

Turn the handle. There is a mechanism that compresses the plug to expand the sides to give a tight fit.

Thanks for your reply. I have turned the handles. Have also pulled out the plugs to see how they compress and they do expand, just not a snug enough even with lots of turning. Still leaking slightly. Are there different options, style of plug that might work better?

Which drain tubes are you having issues? What year and model of boat? Have a photo of the plug?

Boat is 1978 13 foot sport. The 2 tubes are one above the other in the stern. The upper plug snugs in after turning the t handle (live well/ basin - not sure what that’s called. No leak there. The bottom tube sits in an indentation in the floor. That’s the one that leaks. Both are centered below the outboard. While turning the handle on the lower plug it just spins and can easily be pulled out without any resistance. I have switched the plugs to rule out a faulty plug but both work fine. Perhaps it’s an issue with the tube? Just a small annoyance. Im probably overthinking this…I keep a sponge handy.

You should check the drain tube to ensure it is not the problem.

Verify the O rings on the inside and outside are intact, not cracked or deteriorated.
