My Outrage project is in the water thanks to advice and several friends. As I continue to repair small things there are a couple of case where small pieces of sheet metal look like they were potentially used as a grounding in the boat?? one of them is attached to the underside of the transom, and may have been connected to a small brass piece on the back of the boat... near where i've mounted a transducer (before the hull was repainted 2 years ago). Picture below shows the metal but the brass plate is hidden behind it.
Anyone familiar with this and how important it may be to get it right?
Joe and Phil - thanks for the advice. i shoulda reached out sooner!
the brass plate is there on the transom area. But it sounds like running the 2 wires back to the negative battery post may be a better long-term solution (the fuel tank and midship behind the cover).
I was puzzled wire the metal under my boat was connected from the brass grounding plate to a metal fixture just under the boat... almost like a zinc (but not). Should I just ignore that piece? take away the metal and leave the fitting?
Joe - thanks also for the overview on patching your holes. I have many holes on the transom, deck and console that i've just epoxied this summer (but will keep me busy patching and using patch paste this winter!
