In replacing the fuel pump on my 60HP Big Foot, the plunger and spring fell off into the camshaft housing (?). I was able to retrieve both, carefully, however the pin is MIA. As I was pulling the fuel pump, I saw the spring and plunger fall in, but I did not see the pin. I suspect the plunger rotated and the pin fell out at some other time.
I reassembled the engine, ran it, and the issue we were chasing (engine cutting out at runtime) is resolved. I further suspect the loose plunger was contributing to the fuel pump not working optimally.
All of this said, I can't tell from the service manual where this pin could have potentially gone, and whether or not I should get a scope and magnet and go on an expedition.
