We would app any input re choosing a Yamaha T9.9MLHW as a kicker for our newly aqcuired 18 Outrage w" 115 Yam 2stroke. T9.9MLHW=High thrust 9.9HP,manual tilt/start,20" shaft,1998. Rationale is no mixing nec from Outrage onboard tank and tie steering into existing motor. Heavier wt though ie about 90#.
Thanks,
ET

thompsem,
The Yamaha is a good choice and would match your main engine.
Here are the weights and choices of kickers in this article:
http://www.whalercentral.com/readarti...ticle_id=7
You could save 5 pounds going with the T8 but that is up to you.
All an Outrage really needs is 8 hp. See this other article on installing a kicker here:
http://www.whalercentral.com/readarti...icle_id=48
Let us know what you end up with and show us some photos of the installation.

Thanks Joe. I read your articles. This Outrage is my son's in Vacaville, not quite as far up there as you are.

Joe,
Also looking at an F8MSHA for a kicker for the 18 outrage but it's a 15" shaft ( good price though). Is the 15" kicker shaft too short for the outrage ?
Thanks again,
ET

Yes, it is too short and I would not consider using any type of bracket.
Get a 20 inch shaft and bolt it right on the transom....
The F8 is a good lightweight choice.... ( edited: 4 stroke and lightweight)

Joe,
Thanks again. I thought it might be too short. Although the price was great and it was a 4 stroke ( no mix).

I have no idea what I was thinking...
Yes, the F8 is a 4 stroke....
I like the F8 because it is much lighter than the T8 but some people do like the electric start.
Remember with an electric start, you also need to add another battery unless you already have 2 onboard.
