1989 Outrage 18 Repower - 4 Stroke or stick with 2 Stroke?
I have a 1989 Outrage 18' with a Evinrude OceanPro 150 2 stroke that was damaged by a tree that fell during hurricane Sally. Should I replace the 2 stroke with a 4 stroke or should I go back with a 2 stroke? The current setup in the Outrage includes a oil reservoir that resides in the center console and auto mixes when running. Are there weight issues when switching from a 150hp 2 stroke to a 150hp 4 stroke? What are pros and cons of making this type of change?
Given there are no longer any 2 stroke engines produced, a used 2 stroke will be your only option.
As for moving to a 4 stroke, you can simulate the new weight by placing bags of sand etc in the splashwell.
From experience, there will not be any problems going to a 4 stroke 150. Some owners with the heavier motors have moved the battery (~40 lbs) to the console.
