Does anyone have a good kicker mount recommendation for 1991 outrage 17’ ?
Boat currently has a 2-stroke Yamaha 115 weighing 337 lbs that takes up transom. Was planning to mount the kicker on starboard side and it’s to be used for the chance main motor konks out when at sea. Was thinking a 5-6 hp would suffice. Thanks in advance for any info.

Chale - Welcome to WC.
Please specify which Outrage 17 model you have.

My answer depends on your answer.

It’s a 1991 outrage 17’ (1990-1995).

I would be hesitant to add a kicker to the Outrage 17 I.
This model does not handle much more than 375 lbs of transom weight well.
My 1991 model had a 405 lb F115 and it was very tender in seas.
I am in the midst of repowering my 1992 with an E-TEC 90 for the weight.
Simulate the added weight of a kicker and bracket by adding weight to the splashwell.

Seems like a 2-stroke kicker would get me within the weight limits. I will try to add weight incrementally onto the rear seat and see when it’s noticeable.

A good test is to add the simulated weight to the splashwell, launch the boat with a full fuel tank and run out to some 2' waves (not swells).
Come off plane and stop. Now back down into a wave.
Note - A functional bilge pump is required for this test.

Mr. Phil,
Have you replaced the original fuel tank on your 17’ outrage ? If you did, can you tell me a place you ordered it from ?
I think it would be wise for me to get this replaced in the near future maybe this winter.
Thanks in advance for any information.

I have not.
For now I will run off a portable tank installed in the baitwell location. I plan to replace hoses and pressure test the tank this winter.
The original tank is still available from Florida Marine Tank in North Carolina. Due to the significant shipping cost, it is recommended to owners west of the Mississippi have a local metal fabricator duplicate the tank.
If you have basic DIY skills, you can derig the console, slide forward, lift the tank cover, remove the hoses and ground and pull the tank. We can help you through this.
The pre-covid price to estimate price for a tank is $8.00 per gallon of capacity.
A local fabricator can use the existing for a new tank.
The sender is available from www.e-components.net

I think a tank can be purchased from Atlantic Coast Welding. They seem to have the skematics for tank dimensions on file. I will have to confirm with Florida marine tanks to confirm for sure or pull the existing tank and measure it.
Might tackle this project after fishing season. Did some trolling a few weeks ago and seemed to burn a lot of fuel. I suspect my boat with a 115 V4 2-stroke and 34 gallon tank would likely get me 70 or so miles of running (2 miles per gallon). Does that seem accurate ?

FMT will not release drawings.
You will need to remove the tank to get the actual measurements.
i would check with Atlantic on their pricing and backlog. Most firms are running out 3-9 months.
