Hey,
just picked up my first whaler for restoratiuon project and I'm not sure what I bought. The seller told me it was a '74 Nauset....but apparently they didn't make the Nauset after '73. I've been scouring the websited looking for info and I think I've confirmed based on the HIN that is is not a Nauset....I've spoken with BW customer service and was told that my HIN matches no boats in '74.....? I'm kinda at a loss....not sure where to go next....any suggestions!
boat was registered as '74 Nauset
HIN BWCA7409M741
From you HIN you definitely have a 1974 model Boston Whaler....
The last letter of your HIN should be either and (i) I, or an (l) L....
I think you are showing a one (1) there, and this is not what it should be...
See this info and look at the Model Year Format: http://www.whalercentral.com/readarti...icle_id=61
Not that this matters that much, but if you have an i (I), then it was manufactured in April of 1974 as a 1974 model.
If you have an L there, then it was manufactured in July of 1974 as a 1974 model.
Hi Joe,
Thanks for the info.....I suspect you're right about the last character not being a "1." Upon inspecting the tag I believe it is an "l" as in larry. Pictures I'm afraid may not be of much help whereas the only thing original is the console and it is in tough shape. I came across an article which listed serial #'s and the models and years to which they applied and the Nauset was not one of them....I only wish I could remember where I found that article!
Joe what does the "A" at the end of BWCA signify?...I've seen others that start BWCC for instance.
Thanks again for your time.....I'll keep digging for now.
Regards,
Bob
The A is just the start of a series of numbers...
Example:
A1234
B1234
C1234
D1234
Because they only used 4 digits, the A,B,C,D series, expanded the numbering system.
Attach or send us a photo anyway.. We can tell you if the console is original or aftermarket...
Or, create your own Personal Page on our site and post photos there.
Is there a stencil number on those hulls? I sent Chuck Bennett my number and he gave me all the info on my boat. Am surprised they couldn't cross reference the HIN? But looking for the stencil number might be helpful.
I looked for the stencil # in the anchor locker but it seems to have been painted over multiple times.....I am going to take some pics and post them as soon as I get the chance.
Regards,
Bob
