1988 Evinrude 150 - engine surging under power. Shut Down issue resolved.
This started off with an additional issue, the engine wasn't shutting down. I was able to identify the power pack that was not shutting down and after a close inspection found one of the connectors had a broken pin. I replaced the original connector with new push connector and that resolved the issue. The motor now stops just fine.
I'm still dealing with the surging issue, I really wish there was a way I could determine if it is fuel or ignition related. My next step is to go through the fuel system from the engine fuel connector to the carburators. I had the carbs rebuilt about three years ago and the boat was running pretty well earlier this season. Here is video I took today while testing it with 5 gallon portable tank so I could bypass the internal tank and filter system. Didn't make any difference. I had the fuel bulb pumped up solid, no air in the line. The original VRO pump was replaced with a dual pump system. There is a small inline filter inside the engine cowl that I haven't checked yet (access is difficult) but it was new when I upgraded the fuel pumps about two years ago. There is a Raycor in front of it, new filter installed about a week ago. When I checked the Raycor for water it was clear.
