I just purchased an eleven foot Del Quey by a manufacturer name of Dorey . It looks identical to a whaler including the blue interior . I have not been able to find any information about it on the internet or from any boat repair shops . Has anyone heard of it before ? Please let me know anything you can dig up . Thanks
It was the first boat I was going to buy, I went down to put a deposit on it, and the man selling it said the boat was already sold :( I was pretty upset, the next day somebody saw the same size (15') "Whaler" for sale, I told work I felt "sick", left, and bought the "Whaler", I have not even seen many of those boats around anymore, it looked "KINDA" like a "Whaler", I have even seen them in the "Whaler" section for sale in the paper as "Whaler Like". I think it's a "Wolf in sheeps clothing" though.
You see quite a few of the Dell Quay boats over here in the UK, they are manufactured by Fletcher boats. They used to have a complete range from 9' upto 17' all with Dory style hulls, looking at their website, it looks like they only do one model now a Dell Quay Dory Sportman 15'
We had a Dell Quay Dory 13' when I was a young kid - it was great fun with 25hp on the back (or it seemed so to a 12 year old) We had loads of fun in it and always felt safe - although that might have had something to do with the fact that we had the Coastguards daughter in the boat with us!!??
Fletcher Boats have been around for 20-30years and have a very good reputation here in the UK for making very good quality, affordable boats. Being a member of the RNLI Lifeboat Crew where I live in Fowey, a couple of my crew mates have Fletchers and one has a Dell Quay Dory 15' - You don't usually find people who go to sea to save lives having unsafe boats themselves.
