hello everyone, I have a 1987 13' sport with a 40 hp 2 stroke evinrude. just wondering what the correct prop specs would be ? currently has 11 3/4 x 17 . I just bought the boat and haven't tried it out yet. any info appreciated, Tim
(corrected to full 4 digit year per guideline #1 at the top of every page)
Not many owners still have an older 2 stroke so prop recommendations are few in the archive.
Running the numbers through a prop calculator (WOT of 5500, gear ratio of 2.82, slip of 5% and a target speed of 32) shows a recommended pitch of 18". Very close to what you currently have.
Since you have not run the boat yet, I would hold off buying anything until you launch and are fully outfitted.
Prop selection is a bit science, a bit art. After a few weeks of running the boat with various loads, report back your speed and performance.
Note you will need to have a tachometer and a GPS to measure engine output.
