i have have 15ft whaler sport. I'm undecided either to get a 50 or a 70. I'll cary 4 to 5 passengers and would like to ski behind it. My major concern is fuel economy. but how much weight can you put on the back end. a 50 weighs 205 and a 70 weighs 315. is 315 to much weight. lbs is measured w/ 2 stroke motors. i seek advice for motor infromation.
I want a new outboard. I want either direct injection ( which for a 70 weigh in over 300 lbs. as goes w/ four strokes. ive done research, and older 2 strokes are lighter than new direct injection outboards and 4 strokes. fools me!
I have a '76 15' sport with an '04 left over Johnson 50 H.P., It's pretty well balanced between the speed I need, and fuel economy ( I can go all day on 6 gallons of fuel), I was looking for possibly a 70 H.P. but, that engine was hard to find in my price range, and I could not get a 70 at the Evinrude dealer, only a 75 H.P. that they would sell me but, NOT install on the boat (H.P Over rated for the hull), a new 50 was $5000 installed with a new helm, 4 people and a water skier would be a bit much for the 50 H.P motor.
