I'm the new owner of a 1995 Rage 15 with an OMC 115 Turbojet.(TJEOA)
I've read lots of negatives about the 115 but I'm here now and I'd love to get this beauty running before our short Canadian summer is over. Here's where I'm at with it.
I have a complete engine for parts or to replace the one in the boat of I need to. I also have 3 spare jet drives and boxes of parts. The original owner loved these boats and collected parts before he passed away.
1. I replaced the Woodruff Key with the correct replacement. The original was sheered off. Re-torqued the flywheel nut to 105 lbs
2. New plugs
3. Cleaned the carbs, replaced the old gas (not much there to begin with)
4. Checked compression today - 120 on 3 and 110 on the top starboard side.
5. Checked all plugs and am getting good spark on all 4
6. Squirted 50:1 mixed fuel in each cylinder and tried to start.
7. Starter is strong with a new battery.
It will not start! It'll turn over forever but will not start or even act like it's trying. I can't understand it. Does anyone have any idea about what might be wrong? I'm learning a whole lot about this engine and outboards in general but I'd rather be on the water with her. Does anyone have a lead I might follow?
If it does not start with gas in cyls then you probably do not have enough spark. As you know there are 3 things you need, gas, spark and compression. You have gas & compression so.... If you have a poowerpack, swap it out.

24 Whalers so far....
I had on of those a few years back, they are fun. Anyways would always start hard, just sit there and crank, until I learned you had to push in the key in while trying to start it as that chokes it, also make sure when running the key dose not get stuck in.
True...I thought that was a given but with a new owner....yup, they will not start. If you look at the engine, on the side is a black box with a red toggle like thingy. That is the manual choke and you can turn it but remember to turn it back. These are not actually chokes, they prime the motor when cold. No butterflies like a conventional choke.
Thanks to both of you for the replies. I do have another power pack and will try that - if my mechanic can't get it running. I broke down and took it to a boat mech. yesterday. He thinks it may be a timing issue.
While I have your attention :) ... Every boat I've ever owned had a seperate lever to choke the motor. The control lever on this boat is a single lever with a push button on the housing which I've learned allows me to disengage the transmission. During the startup do I disengage the transmission and push the lever forward or leave it in the upright position? I have multiple versions of just about every part so I am including a pic of the controller for clarity.
Honestly it depends on the engine but with most of my older OMCs I would advance it some, push the key in and out about 5-7 times, push the key in and turn it to start. You will perfect it from there but that would be how I would try it....of course after priming the bulb.
