Im about to install a new water pump in my Mercury 2003 60 ELPTO. When taking out the old one I noticed this one part and it was in rough shape, Plate Kit 818226A1. Its this small orange piece of rubber. This part is not included with any pump kits I have seen. What is this part? do i need it?
Got a pic? Sure it was not something sucked into the pump? Only thing I know in pumps are the housing, keyway, impellor and usally a rubber boot on top of housing for the driveshaft.
