1966 13' Sport Moeller or Tempo 12 Gall Fuel Tank?

Member Posts: 6 Comments: 0 Joined: 08/03/07	I searched the forum and couldn't find the answer to this one. I have a 1966 13' 3" Sport. Want to buy a fuel tank to fit under the front bench seat w/out modifying anything. I measured under the seat & came up w/ 7 1/2" clearance. Tempo sells their P/N 650020 Model # 8126 which is what I'd prefer 12 gall that they say measures w/ the cap height at 45 3/8" x 15 1/2" x 8 1/2" high w/ the cap. West Marine has a Moeller P/N 03`612 12 gall that measures 43” x 15” x 5.87” but doesn’t say if the height includes to the top of the cap. Does anyone have experience with this application?

One thing of note - Tempo just went out of business - so I would think you would need to find a stock tank somewhere. Also warranty claims (if any) would be an issue I think. I think the measurements include these items. check Cabelas for the Moeller - they probably will have better prices. they list the tank you are interested in (600 model) for $109.99 plus probably $30 for shipping. You will have to order fuel line fittings as well. Best, JE

The salesperson actually went to the warehouse, opened the box, and measured the clearance for me. I can't remember what it is but he really helped. Surprised me for an online store. As you can see, not only did I have to make a custom seat, longer fore and aft, to cover the entire tank but I also cut holes in the seat to allow for both the fill and the hose connections. Very curious how the ride changed?? The 13 is a slap happy boat with all the weight in the back...motor, batt, standard 6 gal of fuel and a cooler of beer+ two butts. Gotta believe that with fuel amidships that it keeps the nose down a bit more for a smoother ride??? I usually ride with two on board but with body #2 on on the front bench for the most friendly ride in lumpy water. Your comments?

Member Posts: 8 Comments: 0 Joined: 08/04/06	I did not carve up the original bench seat. That is a completely new seat. I got the lumber for free and it happened to be almost 1.25" thick. I had to route out a little to get it to fit under the risers. It has absolutely no flex whatsoever. As far as the ride goes, I think the boat balance is much improved with the fuel forward, especially with the 50hp Yamaha I have hanging on the transom. I commonly load most things forward not aft and when riding with two the second person rides in the "comfortable" seat next to me.

When it gave up the ghost my buddy's pop came home with a Chrystler 55!!! The thing flew even with three on board and a slalom skier chasing us! Only draw back with the skier is that he could drag the back of the boat all over the place when cutting outside. I am using a 6 gal Tempo right now mounted in the rear. Very ass heavy. When I finally step up to the 50 I will do the tank mod. For now the old Ev 30 will have to get me around...Already picked all the leaves off the money tree!
