Repower 1984 17' Montauk

After years of running with a 1990 Evinrude 88 SPL it is time to consider a repower. The current setup runs like a champ but with that being said there are issues that need to be addressed. The age of the motor is a concern and the fact that it is a gas hog. The main use of the boat is bay running, river cruising (slow), pulling grand kids skiing.
I am considering a 90 hp power plant. I have come to the understanding that I would no be satisfied with anything less. I have a dealer that I am completely satisfied with and within easy driving distance. They provide three brands, Evinrude, Yamaha, and Mercury with full services.
My first choice is the Evinrude E-tec 90hp HO. There are a lot of good performance points with 2 stroke. Second would be the Yamaha F 90..
Is there anyone that has repower with the Evinrude 90hp HO or the Yamaha F90? Was the weight of either engine a concern for the 17' Montauk?
The main thing I am looking for is the best all around performance, ease of maintainence for the above mentioned boat.
Any help with my decision would be greatly appreciated.

My advice would be to go with the lightest option of the three you are considering. That would be the Merc 90 Fourstroke. EDIT: It looks like the Yamaha 90 is a bit lighter than the 115, and essentially a tie for weight with the Merc. I'd still go with the Merc for the extra displacement at roughly the same weight.
But either would be a great choice.

There are dozens of owners with each engine on this model.
There are no weight concerns.
The E-TEC 90hp is based on the 3 cyl, 79 cu in. block @ 320 lbs while the E-TEC 90 HO is based on the larger V4 105 cu. in. block and is 390 lbs.

Well I have found a great deal on a 2019 90hp E-TEC with all the bells and whistles.
Model E90DPGL
Controls & Cables
Tach with system check
Stainless steel prop
Installed
7 yr. factory warranty
$9200.00
The only problem now is, what color to get. I know it is a personal decision, but I would like to get input from the group. Pros and cons to color choice.
The colors are Graphite or White. There is a $200.00 up charge for the White.

That deal on the ETEC 90 seems nice. I have a 90 on my 1988 Montauk and really like it. I have a receipt from the previous owner and he paid $8900 in 2012 with a stainless prop (Viper 15" pitch), controls and ICON tach and speedometer installed. I've put close to 500 hours on it in 3 seasons and the only problem I've had was adjusting the shift cable because of problems going into reverse.

As you say, aesthetics are subjective. But my vote would be for white. I’ve always felt that the white w/red graphics ETEC was a perfect match up (aesthetically) to a classic Whaler. Very sharp looking.

All positive here for the ETEC. It does not use much gas. The oil reservoir under the cowl only needs to be topped off every few trips (using the XD100). It starts right up and runs quiet and clean. Since it is a 2 stroke, there is very little maintenance required (recommended every 300 hours) and the torque out of the hole is great. Seems like a perfect match for my 1988 Montauk.
