Anybody out there use a Garmin 70 series handheld GPS onboard their whaler? I have a 72 and no complaints about the unit itself but the Garmin marine mount is terrible! I've been through three of them. Invariably the units either fail at the base arms (flimsy plastic) or at the adjustment point. I am wondering if others have had the same problem and how they may have remedied it. I am thinking about making a small sleeve-like unit from Starboard to hold it. I see that Garmin is now offering a mount designed to attach to bicycle handlebars. I wonder if I could attach the bike mount unit on the console rail running around my windshield? I am afraid though if the mount fails up there I'll loose the GPS overboard... Ideally I'd like to see Garmin make a proper mount for it. Maybe something similiar in design to how my Garmin fish finder mounts...
