I recently purchased a 2014 Mercury 40hp long shaft. Did t realize that I needed a short shaft since my transom is 15”? Would I able able to purchase a jack plate to make up the difference in height.Rookie mistakes, Thank you!

You have two choices:

Kentfab Transadapter: https://www.kentfabrications.comations.com

5" Fixed Jackplate: https://thmarinesupplies.com/products...-extension or https://bobsmachine.com/

Keep in mind, you will want to shift some weight forward to offset the weight of the 4 stroke engine and the jackplate.

Members have moved their fuel tanks to the bench seat in front of the driver. Some have raised the seat to sit on top of the wood cleat so that the tank sits underneath.

Moving the battery will also help.

Another alternative is to shift the entire interior forward a bit. This takes time and planning. Rigging and electrical harnesses may not be long enough allow this.

Sell the wrong shaft size motor and buy a 15 inch shaft outboard. The Boston Whaler 13 will perform better with less weight.

Yes, get yourself another motor that is appropriate - I am using the Tohatsu 40 hp TLDI 2-stroke that if fairly light weight compared to 4-strokes. See my personal page.
