Well I finally bought the Whaler that I have been wanting for years. We ended up buying a 1977 15 foot Sport, though it has been redone to create what is effectively a Striper with two bucket seats. The cosmetics of the hull are not great as there are several obvious repairs to the hull, but the boat seems to be dry as it was floating well even with a 70 HP Johnson. This is actually what I wanted to buy several years ago but my wife wanted to go with a RIB instead. The RIB has never really suited our needs and I have been looking ever since. Here in BC the 15 foot is incredibly popular and when they come up they generally don't last long.

I assume I will have questions going forward as I work on sprucing it up and getting the navigation lights working, as well as setting it up so my wife can go prawning and crabbing safely.

New Whaler owner also. Just purchased a 1994 Montauk 17 that is in excellent condition. It has a 2008 90 Yamaha 2 stroke, installed new in 2010, also in excellent condition. This is the sixth boat that I have owned, but first Whaler, and always wanted one.

So I finally got to take my 1977 15 Sport out for an extended trip last month and I have to say I am sold on the 15 foot as a near perfect boat for my families' needs. More importantly my wife has decided she likes it. We are towing it as a tender locally here in BC and using it as a runaround for any errands as well as prawning/crabbing. It tows well and with the 70 hp Johnson it is a rocket and pops up on plane right now. Much nicer experience then our old RIB.

Of course being a 1977 there are a number of things that need work and that will be an ongoing process. But I have to say that the interior setup that was redone like the Striper model is great for our uses and the fact that it has dings makes me less likely to worry about some of the inevitable damage going forward.
